The aim of this guide is to bring excellent restaurants to greater public attention. I never accept free meals or similar favours in return for a review. I have tried to be comprehensive for European food in Soho, Covent Garden and nearby.  As I seldom go to Chinese, Indian or other non-European restaurants, few are included; if you seek those cuisines, better to consult a different guide.  The same holds for fast food and steakhouses.

The emphasis in this guide is heavily on the quality and originality of the food.  But not quite exclusively: I give some indication of ambiance and suitability for different occasions.

There are as many bad restaurants as good in Central London.  They are not reviewed here.  Every restaurant listed on this site is one I think is good and recommend to friends and family.  However, things can change.  If you go to one of these restaurants and have a disappointing meal, I’d like to hear from you.
